TOUR DESCRIPTION: 9:00 Departure from Quito , heading towards la Mitad del Mundo (the Equator) 10:00 Visit to the Rumicucho Ruins, one of the treasures of the Kitu culture, a pre-Inca culture that dates back to 800 A .D. The Ruins were used as a ceremonial/astronomical site and are still being excavated. 11:30 Visit to Pululahua, one of the largest inhabited and active volcanic craters in the world, with a diameter of 4 kilometers and a depth of 300 meters . One hundred families live in the crater's basin, earning a living from agriculture, planting crops coveted by other farmers. Thirty-minutes hike, passing by a variety of plants with medicinal uses, to a scenic overlook that will give us a view of the inmense crater on one side and the Central Andean range and the valley of la Mitad del Mundo on the other side. Here we will observe an unique microclimate where thwe temperature drops abruptly from 18°C to 8°C . 12:30 Arrival at la Mitad del Mundo, home to a 30 meter pyramid-shaped stone monument containing an ethnographic museum inside. The monument marks the latitude of 0°0'0” and is surrounded by a small, colonial-style city that offers visitors all type of tourist services.
